2023 Build Season – Week 2

Week TWo

Aloha! Welcome to the second week of the 2023 Charged Up Build Season!

Day 9

With the start of a new week, construction support began by completely setting up the practice field. Construction students continued designing and building subsystems while machining parts. Control Systems students used a fun and creative way to learn how to program and continued to work on the autonomous program for the robot. BAM students continued working on the FIRST Impact Award slides and finished editing the weekly recap video which will be uploaded tomorrow along with our weekly social media post!

Day 10

As Monday was a holiday, students came in later and joined their subdivisions. Construction Support made the final adjustments to the practice field and has started to work with Construction on making parts. Construction has continued machining parts for the robot and creating supports. Control Systems are working on where the electronics will go on the robot. They have also begun programming subsystems and button mapping the control. BAM Students reviewed and posted our weekly recap video to our youtube channel! They have also worked on finalizing the FIRST Impact Award Essay and continued working on the presentation.

Day 11

Construction support and Construction students worked together to machine parts for the robot and continued CADing different ideas and prototypes. Control Systems worked on formatting the base subsystem code into a runnable code for the official breadboard and button mapping the controller. BAM students worked on preparing photos and a write-up for tomorrows Waialuan Wednesday, took photos before currating them in Lightroom, and worked with our online mentors on our FIRST Impact Award presentation.

Day 12

Construction support and Construction made parts to mount the bumpers. They are now starting the process of making the belly pan. Students are also looking into possible weight relief options and continuing working to improve our robots design. Control Systems worked on the different subsystems for moving parts on the robot, primarily focusing on the motors. BAM students got the Waialuan Wednesday post ready before heading off to go take photos of each subdivision and curating them to post on the website. Students also continued working on our FIRST Impact Award presentation as our main priority.

Day 13

Construction support and Construction has machining parts for the robot and working on mounting finished parts onto the bumpers. They have also worked on the lift for our robot and are working on fine tuning the design. Control Systems has been working organizing subsystems so the program is easier to debug. Continuing to move parts on the robot to improve the overall design. BAM Students continued updating the Build Season website with photos and a summary while also preparing a script for the Week 2 Build Season Recap video that will be recorded on Friday with Malia and Carter! Check back on Sunday to watch what we’ve been up to for Week 2!

Day 14

Construction and Construction support continued machining big parts as other mentors and students designed prototypes and worked on the bumpers. Control Systems reorganized subsystems, made a function that makes all motors spin at once, and retapped the practice field. BAM Students recorded the Week 2 recap video with Malia and Carter and continued taking photos and videos that are used for our team website and the recap video! They also prepared a weekly recap for our social media. Editing for the weekly recap will continue on Saturday and Sunday before being posted on Monday!

Day 15

Construction and Construction support made bearings, L brackets, arm parts, and polycarb plates for the robot. They also continued machining parts for the competition robot. Control Systems converted the encoder values to inches, made lift presets, and made some fixes to some wires. BAM students worked on editing the Week 2 Video recap, prepared to post on social media, practiced presenting their FIRST Impact Award essay, and gathered photos for the Woodie Flowers award submission. They also updated the website with photos and took photos and videos of each subdivision. Today we celebrated our founder and lead mentor’s birthday! We are very grateful for his dedication to our program and are inspired to continue working hard through this build season!

Check Out Week Three!
